Fiona wins Karl Freeman Prize

PhD candidate Fiona Whelan receives a Karl Freeman Prize, which is awarded to the top Biochemistry graduate seminars each year. The awards are generously donated by Karl Freeman, a former chair of the Department of Biochemistry from 1973-1979. Congratulations!

Josie and Michelle win CSM awards.

PhD candidates Josie and Michelle were both awarded prizes at the Canadian Society of Microbiologists Annual Conference in Toronto. Josie won the very impressive Canadian Science Publishing Student Symposium Award For Top Student Oral Presentation and Michelle received a Poster Award, which was a new prize given to the top 12 posters at the meeting.

Congratulations to Josie and Michelle for being recognized for their great work!

Surette Lab Celebrates Halloween!

Surette lab takes first place in the very competitive annual Biochemistry department pumpkin carving contest with their fantastic E.T. pumpkin! PhD student Pat Schenck wins for Best Individual costume, but you’ll have to guess what he is! Happy Halloween!

Surette Lab PhD Students Receive Biochem Travel Awards

Daphnee Lamarche and Jennifer Lau were awarded with Graduate Student Travel Awards from the department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, supporting their attendance at the Human Immunity and Microbiome in Health and Disease Symposia in Montreal, and Fiona Whelan received the award to attend the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Phoenix. These awards from the department support students travelling to scientific meetings to present their research. Well done Fiona, Daphnee and Jenn!
